These patients subsequently led to his study of, not only primary mitochondrial dysfunction, but the parsimony directing nature of the connections to health and diseases by the co-evolutionary phenomenon of acquired mitochondrial dysfunction.   Conjugation adaption on a cellular level of communication at its origin.  Dr. Smith has kept his promise to his mentor to keep on trying to find the connections.   Health at its origins of multicellular organism development.
